About This Quote
In the 1960s, the US military developed a four-word phrase that became a guiding principle for air support: “Close air support covereth a multitude of sins.” The idea was that air power could stop a battle from ever beginning, or at least from getting out of hand. In other words, air support could prevent a battle from turning into a bloodbath. It was a strategy of last resort, because it meant giving up some battlefield advantage to achieve a greater strategic goal.
